Abel Maestas

Abel Maestas is the owner and founder of Maestas Math Educational Consulting, LLC. He specializes in working with districts, schools, coaches and teachers interested in enhancing instruction in secondary mathematics. Before founding Maestas Math, Abel served as the secondary mathematics instructional coach for the Ceres Unified School District following twenty years as a classroom math teacher having taught nearly every mathematics course from 7th grade to AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics, a course in which he served as an AP reader for several years. Additionally, he was a part-time lecturer of Statistics at California State University, Stanislaus. His passion for education is entrenched in his work with educators and educational leaders. Through presentations, workshops, individual coaching, hosting his podcast: “Teaching That Counts” and co-hosting the NCSM Learning with Leaders Podcast, he supports educators in building more equitable spaces where students can experience and discuss mathematics in authentic ways to increase students’ sense of belonging as mathematicians. He loves spending time with his children, watching sports, and singing with his band.
