Patrick Brose, Superintendent/Principal, Camptonville Union Elementary School District
Patrick Brose has been a member of SSDA for 5 years and is a Superintendent in one of the smaller, more remote districts in CA. Patrick understands the challenges that small districts face and has the capacity and confidence to advocate for the needs of small and rural districts. Patrick possesses the ability to connect people from different backgrounds, programs, and ideals in a manner that produces improvements for all parties. Patrick has over 20 years of experience serving on different boards and leadership ranging from HOA boards, to teachers association boards, to running a school district as the only administrator. Patrick has also worked as a school administrator for 12 years as a Dean, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Superintendent at all levels K-12.

Katie Kohler, Superintendent, Chicago Park Elementary School District
Katie Kohler is the Superintendent/Principal of Chicago Park School District in Nevada County, California. Born and raised in Nevada County, Katie attended small school districts herself and has dedicated the majority of her educational career to serving rural schools and communities. With over 17 years in public education, including nine years in administration, she is passionate about ensuring that students in small districts have access to innovative, high-quality educational opportunities.
Katie is a strong advocate for Career Technical Education (CTE), particularly agricultural education and hands-on learning experiences that connect students to real-world skills. Under her leadership, Chicago Park School has developed a TK-8 agriculture program, a half-acre working farm, and a MakerSpace focused on STEM and project-based learning. She believes small schools are uniquely positioned to create meaningful, personalized learning experiences for students.
Throughout her career, Katie has secured over $2.3 million in grants to support rural school innovation, modernization, and expanded student opportunities. She has also been deeply involved with SSDA, serving as a Region 3 Board Member, Interim Treasurer, conference presenter, and co-chair of the SSDA State Conference for four consecutive years.
Katie is committed to advocating for the needs of small school districts across California and believes strongly in the power of collaboration, innovation, and strong community connections to support student success.

Larry Mahoney, Jr. Ed.D., Superintendent, Mother Lode Union School District
Dr. Larry Mahoney, Jr. is an educational leader and practitioner with over 20 years of experience in K–12 systems and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Mahoney has served as Superintendent of Mother Lode Union School District for the past three years.Dr. Mahoney has served as the Director of C&I before that and principal for 7 years. Dr. Mahoney has expertise in curriculum design, instructional improvement, and data-driven decision-making. Dr. Mahoney's experience in both a large urban district, as well as a small rural district, has granted him a unique perspective on the adversity small districts face in the public education system.
