Region 1 Candidates & Voting Form

John Blakely, Superintendent, Bridgeville Elementary School District

John Blakely has worked in small schools, from 40 ADA to 200 ADA, for 30 plus years. His districts have always been members of SSDA. John believes his small small school experience and perspective as an educator and leader would help continue a necessary balance between small single school districts and larger multi-school districts within the Small School Districts Association. In addition, John has worked for and supported the unique and under represented position of Superintendent/Principal his entire career. John was involved in establishing the California Rural Superintendent/Principal Academy (CRSPA) and served as a Superintendent/Principal coach for the program.

Ani Larson, Superintendent/Principal, Dunham School District

My name is Ani Larson, and I am the Superintendent of Dunham Elementary School District in Sonoma County, bringing over 30 years of experience in education, including 19 years as a teacher in a small school district before moving into administration.

I am an advocate for rural and small schools. I currently serve on the Sonoma County Office of Education Leadership Team as the representative for small school districts. As a small school representative, I advocate for resources for our small schools at the county level. I have a strong connection throughout Region 1, including Sonoma, Mendocino, and Humboldt Counties, where I attended Cal Poly Humboldt. SSDA has been an important resource throughout my work as a superintendent, providing advocacy, guidance, and a strong support network for small school leaders navigating the unique challenges of rural education.

I am committed to ensuring the voices of small school districts are heard, valued, and represented in educational leadership and decision-making.
