Planada Elementary School District Superintendent, José González, Appointed to SSDA Board of Directors

CA Small School Districts’ Association (SSDA) announces the appointment of José González, Superintendent of Planada Elementary School District, to the SSDA Board of Directors.

Sacramento, CA, November 9 – José González, Superintendent of Planada ESD, has been selected to the California Small School Districts' Association (SSDA) as an executive board member. SSDA represents 59% of school districts in California, and the association started in 1982 to focus on advocacy, legislation, and professional development for teachers and administration. It is the largest association representing small rural schools in the country. "I am pleased to have José González joining the Small School Districts' Association's Executive Board," stated SSDA Board President Stuart Packard, Superintendent Buttonwillow ESD. "José will bring a tremendous background that will help not only students, families, and school districts in Stanislaus County, but will help strengthen the voice of small and rural districts throughout California. The central valley is an important part of our work, and having José be the voice will bring great things to small school districts."

SSDA's core focus in 2021-22 is eliminating the digital divide, assisting districts who have been affected by the pandemic, providing support and resources for distance learning, and ensuring federal and state funding is distributed equitably to small school districts. "Exhilarated! Energized! Enthused! As I pause to reflect on what it means to be appointed to the SSDA Executive Committee," stated José González, "those words immediately come to mind. It is a privilege and honor, and I look forward to being a spokesperson for SSDA's Mission and the distinct needs of SSDA. I am committed to working with our Executive Leadership Team to unite members across the state and excite the Educational Community and Legislative Leaders about SSDA's model of engagement. "

José brings a lot of experience to the SSDA board and is committed to improving small school districts. He has worked for the past 25 years as a teacher and administrator and is the former President of the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators. Tim Taylor, SSDA Executive Director, expanded, "Adding José González to our team is equivalent to obtaining an All-Star Shortstop in Baseball. Jose is so well respected throughout the state, has connections at the federal level, and most importantly, is gifted in mentoring other Superintendents throughout California. He is driven, well respected, and will speak up on behalf of our teachers and students."

José's appointment began on November 1, 2021, and is a four-year term.
