U.S. Department of Education sent this bulletin at 01/16/2020 05:05 PM EST
Dear LEA Contact:
We are writing to encourage you to review the information the U.S. Department of Education (the Department) will utilize to determine eligibility for the fiscal year (FY) 2020 Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP) Small, Rural School Achievement (SRSA) and Rural and Low-Income Schools (RLIS) awards. Your school district’s information is contained in the Master Eligibility Spreadsheet, which can be found on the REAP website: https://oese.ed.gov/offices/office-of-formula-grants/rural-insular-native-achievement-programs/rural-education-achievement-program/small-rural-school-achievement-program/. If you find any inaccurate information in your review of the spreadsheet, please immediately contact your State representative (see contact list here) who will work with the Department to update the spreadsheet as necessary.
Simplified SRSA Application Process
Every school district eligible to receive a positive SRSA allocation for FY 2020, according to the Master Eligibility Spreadsheet, will apply for an SRSA award using a unique link in MAX Survey that will be sent to eligible school districts on February 3, 2020.
The new, simplified SRSA application is the result of extensive feedback received from local school district officials and rural stakeholders nationwide. The new SRSA application in MAX Survey uses a single platform that should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. In addition, the approximately 2,500 school districts that are eligible for both SRSA and RLIS will receive enhanced guidance on how to choose between SRSA and RLIS. Each applicant will also receive a confirmation email that includes a summary of responses for their school district to keep for their records, and directions for next steps.
SRSA Application Webinars
The Department will conduct application webinars for SRSA-eligible LEAs on February 4, March 19, and April 2, 2020 to demonstrate the simplified process for submitting the SRSA application using MAX Survey. Each webinar will be identical in format and content, and we will answer questions from participants throughout the presentation. Registration information for webinars is forthcoming.
The MAX Survey SRSA application process will also be demonstrated at the National ESEA Conference on February 6, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia (for additional details see the 2020 National ESEA Conference website).
