Founded in 1869, Mountain Elementary School District (MESD) is a single school District located by Soquel Creek at the edge of the redwoods, 3 miles north of Soquel Village and nearby Capitola Beach. Mountain School is a small school district serving approximately 150 students in grades kindergarten through sixth. All students are provided challenging academic opportunities that are enhanced by the integration of music, visual and performing arts, physical education and community building into the program.

The Superintendent/Principal is the Chief Administrative Officer of the District, overseeing all aspects of school operations including but not limited to: Policy and Administration, Personnel, Curriculum and Instruction, Student Services, Budget and Finance, Labor Relations, Special Education, Safety and Facilities Management.

The Superintendent/Principal is directly responsible to the Governing Board, serves as Secretary of the Board, and supervises all district operations in accordance with Board policies. The MESD Board of Trustees requires a Superintendent/Principal who possesses experience and a proven track record of success in these domains and has the ability to execute school operations in the framework of the district mission.

Job Summary

Pacific Valley School in the Big Sur Unified School District is seeking a qualified, experienced Administrative Assistant, to start immediately. The Administrative Assistant will coordinate the workflow and activities processed through the office of Superintendent/Principal; assist the Superintendent/Principal by performing a variety of responsible secretarial and routine administrative support functions. This job class functions in a highly visible and independent manner and requires a high degree of positive contact with students, parents, staff, community members, and the Board.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Graduation from high school or its equivalent, with business college or other college education highly desirable. 2. Three years of responsible and varied secretarial and clerical experience, preferably in an educational setting. 3. Knowledge of functions and clerical operations of an executive office; current office equipment and computer terminal operation; preparation of business correspondence, detailed reports, budget memos, filing systems, telephone systems; business forms; excellent written and verbal communication skills; basic arithmetic. 4. Ability to perform highly complex secretarial and clerical work with accuracy and speed; understand and apply complex policies and rules; work independently in the absence of specific instructions; type/keyboard accurately at 45-60 wpm; deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, friendliness, poise, and tact. 

TYPICAL DUTIES: 1. Independently manage and prioritize multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. 2. Responsible for handling all secretarial duties for the Superintendent/Principal. 3. Compose correspondence, agendas, reports, and notices on routine matters and as directed. 4. Operate standard office equipment. 5. Establish and maintain confidential and complex files. 6. Act as receptionist receiving and routing phone calls, visitors, and mail. 7. Perform other duties as required and assigned.
