“CA Kids Fire Relief” Launched to Support Rural Schools Devastated by Wildfires
Students Asked to Help Other Students Impacted by Fires

The wildfires ravaging California’s rural communities are displacing countless families and affecting dozens of small schools and districts. The fires have destroyed schools, forced many campuses to close, and rendered many families homeless, just as students were returning for in-person learning.

On Wednesday, August 25, 2021, education leaders will announce details for the launch of “CA Kids Fire Relief.” It is a two-week statewide effort where students and school communities throughout California are being encouraged to provide financial and emotional support to those students, families, and schools impacted by the catastrophic wildfires.

When: Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 10:30 a.m.

Where: Sacramento County Office of Education – 10474 Mather Boulevard, Sacramento, CA

Speakers

·       David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools

·       Tim Taylor, Executive Director, Small School Districts Association

·       Dr. Ed Manansala, El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, CCSESA Region 3 Chair

·       Annette Lane, Pioneer Union School District Superintendent/Principal

·       Scott W. Lay, Nevada County Superintendent

This effort is a collaboration between the Small School Districts Association (SSDA), the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA), and the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE).
