05.11.10: May Revision to be Released on May 14, 2010

By David Walrath

The next scene at the annual State Budget kabuki theater will be presented on Friday when the Governor releases his 2009-10 and 2010-11 State Budget revisions.  The State Controller released his April revenue report last Friday showing revenues below the January budget estimates for April and for the 2009-10 fiscal year.

The April report is more reflective of last year’s (2009) state economy (most of the April income tax payments and refunds are for the 2009 tax year) than it reflects this year’s (2010) state economy that was showing $2.6 billion more revenue prior to the April revenue crash.

Receive more May Revision details and learn the initial legislative response to the May Revision and how schools should expect the 2010-11 budget battles to be resolved. Learn what you will need to consider when developing your 2010-11 school budget that has to be approved by June 30th even if it will have to be redone after the final state budget actions.

In addition to the money, what new policy proposals will be in the May Revision, will there be a school bond proposal, will there be more flexibility?

SSDA will present The May Revise: New Hope or More of the Same? webinar on May 20th. It will include answers to these questions and more to assist small school districts in their budget planning and implementation for 2010-11 and 2011-12.  Click here for more information and to register.
