04.07.09: School Districts of Choice Legislation Update

Many SSDA members have indicated opposition to school districts of choice, and many members have indicated support for school districts of choice. SSDA has no position. However, we want our members to be informed that SB 680 is set to be heard in the Senate Education Committee on April 15, 2009; and AB 1407 is set to be heard the same day in the Assembly Education Committee.
SB 680 would extend without sunset the authority for current school districts of choice and allows new school districts of choice.
AB 1407 would extend for five years the authority for current school districts of choice but does not allow new school districts of choice.
