09.29.09: New Survey Results on Teacher Recruitment and Retention in Rural Schools
By David Walrath
The American Association of School Administrators and the National Rural Education Advocacy Coalition (SSDA is a founding member) has released their survey results of teacher recruitment and retention in rural school districts. (Click here to view the results).
SSDA thanks its member districts that participated in the survey. The results have been presented to White House staff and will be presented to Congressional staff and Department of Education staff. The survey clearly documents the difficulties rural school districts have with teacher recruitment and retention. It also clearly refutes the theory that low cost-of-living areas can recruit qualified educators and do not have to pay higher salaries to be successful.
