Legislation & Advocacy: Federal Updates

July 27, 2008: Medicaid Cuts Blocked

By David Walrath

Last night Congress completed action on legislation to block the cuts in Medicaid that would have started this fall. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, under urging from President Bush, adopted rules to end reimbursement to school districts for home-to-school transportation and administrative costs for serving special education students from Medicaid eligible families.

Congress blocked these cuts in a bill the President has agreed to sign.

Congratulations.  Many small districts asked SSDA to work on saving this funding. I am pleased to report that we and our many coalition partners were successful.
