04.24.08 -- Medicare Billing Update
By David Walrath
Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed HR 5613, the continuation of Medicare billing by school districts for transportation and administrative costs. This legislation passed with a veto proof majority with most Republicans voting in support along with almost all of the Democrats. The bill would put a moratorium on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid regulation which would have prohibited billing and reimbursement for these services to low-income, special education students. The moratorium would be until April 2009 when there will be a new administration.
Thank you for all your help on this issue, however, it is not over. The United States Senate still has to act and act with the same veto proof majority. Please continue to contact Senators Feinstein and Boxer and ask for their support to continue the moratorium until April 2009.
